Indigenous tourism carries time-honoured values of hospitality em
bedded in ancient cultures. Host-to-guest relationships among Indigenous communities worldwide demonstrate values of welcoming, respect, sharing and protection. It has been said that guests traveling into Indigenous territories are treated with the care that a host would provide for family members.
When you enter the first day of the Summit, you will be embraced with a ceremony called Welcome to Country. The welcoming will be extended by Noongar elder Walter McGuire. The ceremony will remind you of the importance of hospitality, cultural knowledge and the close relationship with sacred Mother Earth.
The Summit brings together friends and allies from diverse parts of the tourism industry, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous tourism interests, academics, government representatives…and youth. International speakers and delegates add a dimension of broad knowledge and experience to the gathering.
The Summit will be an enriching experience where participants can impart and gain knowledge of the vital interdependence among tourism, community and earth stewardship. Delegates will learn more about the timeless, universal values that make Indigenous tourism special and unique…values of respect, generosity, hospitality and ancient earth wisdom.
Speakers and delegates will discuss the role Indigenous values and wisdom can play in building a kind of tourism better equipped to survive in the future, asserting Indigenous rights in our home countries, and nurturing a growing awareness of the need to unite and engage in the equitable development of Indigenous economies.
