Did you know that Bathurst was one of the first cheese regions in the country? The fine cheeses of George and Janet Rankin were highly celebrated in Sydney throughout the 1820s and 1830s.
The Bathurst region is home to a host of trendy eateries that are often housed in heritage spaces, where chefs are using fresh, locally and regionally sourced produce in creative and delicious ways.
Cafe culture is alive and well in the town's main streets, with plenty of places to catch up for smashed avo and locally roasted coffee including The Hub, Drake and Duck Cafe and Harvest Cafe and Store.
If you are searching for a romantic dinner reservation, look no further than Vine & Tap or Restaurant 9inety 2wo for casual fine dining done to perfection. Church Bar + Wood Fired Pizza and Pantanos Bar and Grill are both local icons for a family friendly feast or social gathering.
Bathurst has a selection of hotels all offering a mouthwatering pub feed for lunch or dinner and are suitable for the whole family. Check out the George Hotel, The Victoria Bathurst, The Knickerbocker Hotel, The Kings Hotel, The Family Hotel or Jack Duggans Irish Pub.

The Villages also cater to those on regional adventures. Look to The Church Block Eglington for an expertly crafted coffee before heading to Hill End, and the 24 Carat Cafe and the Hill End General Store for a giant sandwich or homemade slice. Rockley has recently been a buzz in the culinary conversation, with Matt Moran recently taking over the Rockley pub.
The high altitude and cool temperatures of the Bathurst region make for a unique climate for vignerons, brewers and distillers alike. Local producers of beer, wine and spirits are pushing the boundaries of what's possible for their crafts, creating distinct, fresh flavours that can only be found here. Meet the makers and taste the wines of Bathurst on most weekends by appointment at the cellar doors at Rock Forest, Renzagalia Wines, Vale Creek Wines, Winburndale Wines, and Bellbrook Friends Wines, and look for the label of Grass Parrot Vineyard in local bars and restaurants.
Craft beer fans can keep an eye out for Cosmo Brewing. Bathurst’s own beer on tap at The George Hotel, Church Bar + Wood Fired Pizza or The Victoria Bathurst to try their amazing sours, using locally foraged flavours but cherry and feijoa.
Visit Bathurst Grange Distillery to taste their expertly crafted gin with contemporary infusions like the Lemon Myrtle or Rose Garden Gin, and tour the historic homestead, once visited by Charles Darwin. Try Stone Pine Distilleries Rhubarb Gin with soda and fresh lime on a summer afternoon at The George Hotel.
