VietJet enters Australia with direct flights from Melbourne to HCMC

Vietjet
Vietjet announced the airline’s decision to commence direct flights from Vietnam to Australia, connecting Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) with Melbourne Australia effective 31 March 2023. The announcement follows an official ceremony witnessed by Mr. Tim Pallas, Minister for Trade and Investment during his visit to Vietnam.

On debut, there will be three flights each week on Vietjet’s modern and comfortable A330 aircraft between HCMC and Melbourne. The airline also expects to increase its operation to seven flights per week from December 2024.

Vietjet offers a variety of affordable ticket classes that allow passengers to maximise their flying experiences, including SkyBoss Business, SkyBoss, Deluxe and Eco. Current flight routes are as below:
  • On every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, flights depart from HCMC at 09:50 AM (local time) and land at Melbourne Airport at 10:35 PM (local time) on the same day.
  • On every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, flights depart from Melbourne Airport at 00:30 AM (local time) and arrive in HCMC at 05:15 AM (local time) on the same day.

Tim Pallas – Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment welcomed Vietjet’s decision to commence flights connecting Vietnam with Melbourne. “The arrival of another airline from Southeast Asia is a win for the Victorian economy and local jobs – showing the strength of our tourism and export markets.”

The Vietnamese new age airline will lay the first stones of its grand plan to connect Vietnam and Australia and expand its global network linking Vietnam with all continents across the world. With reasonable pricing portfolios for qualified services, Vietjet expects to offer flying opportunities to millions of passengers globally.

Importantly, with the combination of Vietjet’s well-planned preparation backed by Vietnamese and Australian authorities, and significant supports from the Victorian government, Vietjet flights will be a catalyst for sustainable growth in tourism, trade and the economies of Vietnam, Victoria, and Australia in coming years. With its existing extensive flight network, Vietjet will open up opportunities for Asian tourists to explore Australia through its convenient and reasonably-priced connecting service.

Victoria and Australia on the whole have traditionally been known as popular tourism and study destinations. An estimate of approximately 123,000 visitors to Australia in 2019 were from Vietnam. Data from the Vietnam General Statistics Office reveals that in 2021, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia reached a record-high at USD12.4 billion. This turnover is expected to grow further thanks to the arrival of Vietjet in the Australian market in 2023.

Earlier, during a meeting with Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman H.E. Vuong Dinh Hue, Mr. Tim Pallas shared plans to promote cooperation between Victoria and Vietnam in areas where the state has strengths such as energy transition, education and training, aviation, and tourism in 2023 and the following years.
