Colin Buchanan elevated to the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown in Tamworth

Colin Buchanan
A charismatic and versatile, singer, songwriter, media all-rounder and Golden Guitar winning entertainer was elevated to the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown, at the 2023 Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth, NSW.

Nine-time Golden Guitar winner, Colin Buchanan was awarded the prestigious honour as this year’s inductee at tonight’s 51st Golden Guitar awards ceremony by Tamworth Country Music Festival founder Max Ellis and multi-award winning artist Graeme Connors for his outstanding contribution to country music in Australia and New Zealand. Born in Ireland, Colin came to Australia as a child.

In his early 20’s he and his wife lived in outback NSW, where he was inspired by the music of country music legend John Williamson. In 1992 Colin shot to prominence, winning New Talent of the Year at the Golden Guitar Awards, with his album Galahs In The Gidgee.

Launched as a singer-songwriter, he was soon collaborating on career making songs with artists like Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley and Beccy Cole and his extraordinary ability to paint a picture, capture a mood or tell a story in song has influenced a generation of our country stars.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Colin has released over 40 albums, been nominated for four ARIA awards, won an APRA Songwriters Award and has been awarded nine Golden Guitars and is a truely talented entertainer and songwriter, whose heart lies firmly in Australian country.

Colin has now released a new country single titled ‘Little Barefoot Millie’, which was inspired by the 2 true story of a missing girl.

He also has an album due for release later this year, which has been produced by multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winner Matt Fell.

The Roll of Renown was initiated by Radio 2TM in 1976, when Tex Morton, Father of Australian Country, was the first to be placed on the Roll.

To date, 53 country music legends have joined the exclusive group with plaques recognizing each inductee placed on boulders in front of the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC).

Colin’s plaque was unveiled on Sunday, 22 April 2023 at the Roll of Renown at the Tamworth Region Entertainment and Conference Centre.

The Roll of Renown itself comprises large bronze plaques mounted on giant granite boulders in front of TRECC (the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre).

A busy tourist attraction it pays homage to past and present heroes including Slim Dusty, Smoky Dawson, Reg Lindsay, Lee Kernaghan, Graeme Connors, James Blundell, Troy Cassar-Daley, Joy and Heather McKean, Tommy and Phil Emmanuel, Jimmy Little, Anne Kirkpatrick and the 2021 winners, the Bushwhackers.
