According to Tourism Research Australia, it was the most popular holiday type for Australians in 2019, with an additional 5.5 million caravan and camping trips taken compared to the previous year, and an extra 17.3 million nights spent caravanning and camping annually.
Of course, the devastating bushfire season coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic has put the brakes on what was an incredible period of growth for the industry, but the good news is that regional tourism is on the up and up, and very much front of mind for 2021.
