PROMPERÚ to promote sustainable tourism during the post-COVID-19 era

Being a global current and transversal to specialized tourism segments such as culture, nature, adventure, high-end and gastronomy, PROMPERÚ is promoting sustainable tourism experiences in every market with current promotional actions in order to position Peru as a destination committed to this trend.

In this sense, experiences that have international recognition in the mentioned segments were promoted, in the hands of prestigious allies like the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and the Virtuoso Association, among others. Likewise, alliances were established with organizations that promote sustainability in the country, such as the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (SERNANP), with the aim of developing brand new destination content.

Health protocols for COVID-19 in Peru

The managing companies of the airports approved the health protocol to be implemented for passenger traffic, according to national and international regulations and recommendations to guarantee the health safety of passengers and workers. The measures contemplate the entire travel process: recommendations before traveling, protocols for flight arrivals and departures, as well as for purchases and services within the airport.

The restart of international passenger flights began gradually on October 5 with only seven countries. Currently, 41 foreign destinations are available. Passengers are obliged to comply with basic health protocols such as the use of a face shield and mask, as well as the presentation of a molecular test performed within the last 72 hours.

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism established a sectoral health protocol for categorized hotels in all regions of Peru, detailing all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect employees, customers and suppliers.

Restaurants need to comply with a series of sanitary measures to avoid contagion between workers and customers. The delivery service was already enabled, the restaurants will now be opened to offer meals in situ. However, they cannot exceed 50% of the legal occupation of each business. It is mandatory to maintain a safe distance between tables. In addition, workers must wear a mask during their shifts.

Travel agencies, hostels and tourist guides must use of protective equipment; protocols in care, administrative and operational areas; appointment of personnel for symptom identification activities; among others.

The protocols of adventure tourism, canoeing and hiking indicates that hygiene and sanitation provisions are mandatory; the use of protective equipment, protocols in service areas, administrative areas and operational areas, designation of personnel for symptom identification activities, among other considerations.

Nature tourism will also be one of the first to resume due to its development in open spaces. For this reason, the Service of Protected Natural Areas of Peru (SERNANP) has established the guidelines for visits when tourist activity is restored. A capacity reduction was ordered (less than% 50), the sale of entrance tickets will be by electronic means and in advance. Also, visitors must submit an affidavit of health prior to ticket control.

Museums and institutions established the reduction of their capacity to less than 50% to maintain more than one meter of distance between the visitors. In addition, the use of masks, disinfection of hands and shoes are mandatory. It is important to mention that to make the visit you must make a prior reservation virtually or by phone.
