READY FOR SOME LOVIN’? THAI TOURISM RUSHES ROMANCE TO THIRSTY PUBLIC

Making a love connection with Thai tourism’s help is here sooner than planned with pilot programs launching Sunday, including a Tinder partnership.

Tourism authority booster-in-chief Thapanee Kiatpaiboon yesterday said three trips are ready for testing that include destinations in Bangkok, Phuket and Lopburi provinces. In Bangkok, Tinder is on board with plans to bring 100 lonely ladies and gents together for a romantic Chao Phraya River dinner cruise. This being Thailand, the champagne and sweet talk comes only after they first pray for love at nine temples along the way.

It’s free and, perhaps most seductively, love seekers will be joined by renowned astrologer Tosphorn Sritula to offer celestial counsel on how they can up their game and be luck in love. Win a spot by entering a drawing. Tinder is a sponsor, but downloading (or re-downloading) its app doesn’t seem necessary.

More interested in beach babes? Be one of 50 people to join a Jan. 9 love trip to a serene island in the Andaman Sea. Officials will close Phang Nga’s Koh Khai to give the singles exclusive access to its white sands, diving and other watersports. Tickets are a dirt cheap THB222 (US$7), but participants must make their way to a Phuket pier on their own satang.

While the tours are marketed toward Thai singletons, there are no rules excluding others from joining. Thapanee said plans call for creating more than 20 trips and activities that they expect to generate over THB100 million baht (US$3.3 million) in the first quarter.

Single travelers can also choose to head north for a romantic ride on a vintage (yet still air-conditioned) train. Heading to Lopburi’s Pasak Chonlasit Dam from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong station, the journey will offer views of nature and local northern life on Jan. 23. The highlight is that the train will make an iconic stop on a famous long bridge over the reservoir. Tickets will be available for 50 people for THB555 each (US$18).
