She will now go on to represent the region in the same category in the national Scottish Thistle Awards next March.
Elma loves to share her passion for Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Scotland with visitors. Working as a Blue Badge professional tourist guide allows her to do this, to see the area through her visitors’ eyes and share their experiences.
Her clients include ancestral visitors searching for their roots, whom she guides by car, and groups of all nationalities who travel by coach. Elma guides in both English and Norwegian.
Judges for the award commented on Elma’s attention to detail, her enthusiasm to go the extra mile for her visitors and her recent accreditation to permit her to guide people with learning difficulties.
Elma said: “I was delighted that the judges were interested in my T-Guide accreditation as guiding small groups of people with severe learning difficulties has been one of the highlights of my year.”
Elma is a previous recipient of the ACSTA Hospitality Hero Award (2015-16) and the Pride of Aberdeen Tourism & Hospitality Award (2016).
