Good Friday at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

It’s Good Friday, the start of the Easter long weekend and school holidays – and what better way to spend some quality time with the family than exploring the Sydney Royal Easter Show (the Show)!

There’s a world of choice starting with the Trick Riding Championships for both the juniors and seniors, then moving to the Channel 9 Woodchop Stadium for the ultimate crowd favourite, the 325mm World Championship Tree Felling Final. And when you’re done, satisfy your hunger with some fresh Australian seafood from the De Costi Wine and Oyster Bar.

Tricks of the trade

Gallop down to Schmidt Arena today to see Australia and Canada’s best trick riders perform mind blowing stunts that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The audience will hold its breath as competing riders perform spectacular acrobatics on the backs of galloping horses, with the ultimate aim of being crowned Champion of their class and walking away with a share of the $10,000 plus prize pool.

The action kicks off with the Junior Trick Riding Championships at 9.30am, followed by the Australian Roman Riding Championships at 11.30am, and finishing up with the Senior Trick Riding Championships at 1.30pm.

The final cut-down

Woodchopping has been a competitive feature at the Show for over a century. The ‘Wimbledon of Woodchop’ attracts more than 220 competitors, including 50 international competitors from 11 countries.

Today is one of the biggest days on the calendar in the Channel 9 Woodchop Stadium. The major event of the day is the Sydney Royal Woodchopping & Sawing Competition- 325mm World Champion Tree Felling, which is on at 3.00pm.

The unique competition showcases the best in the business. Competitors must climb up the tree and chop through the entire log, requiring incredible strength and stamina, while chopping at a fast pace. Get down there to watch splinters fly.

Seafood sensations at the Show

During the Show, the team at the De Costi Wine and Oyster Bar is expected to shuck a whopping 350,000 oysters. The Wine and Oyster Bar is open daily in the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome, and this Easter they’re looking forward to Showgoers enjoying some of their award winning produce.

Tuck into the 2015 Gold Medal winning Tathra Oysters – a little slice of heaven from the NSW South Coast. Not keen on Oysters? No problem. You’ll love the fat and juicy Crystal Bay prawns instead.

If you’re hankering for a seafood snack then head on down to the Snack Shack at Spotless Stadium, where you’ll be able to pick up a four fish cocktails for only $3!

There’s also a great mix of fish and chip outlets around The Showground for Showgoers to feast on.
