Tropical North Queensland is set to become Instagram heaven with the launch of an Instamap revealing the region's most “Instagrammable” locations.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Chief Executive Officer Alex de Waal said the Instamap would encourage visitors to share their photos using the hashtag #exploreTNQ.
“There are 24 spectacular shots revealing incredible scenery from our reef, rainforest, outback, beach, rural and city locations included on the Instamap,” he said.
“Some are favourite Instagram locations like the Cairns Esplanade lagoon and the Great Barrier Reef, but others such as Walshs Pyramid and Cobbold Gorge will tempt travellers to explore more of the region.
“TTNQ ran a competition for Instagrammers to have their photo and Instagram handle included on the Instamap and had a huge response with more than 400 entries.”
Congratulations to the winning Instagrammers: Delina Connell @delinadesign, Lauren Bullen @gypsea_lust, Andrew Watson @andrewwatsonphoto, Marni Barnett @marnibarni, Elisa Detrez @elisaparkranger, Martine Simonds @digitaldaydreams, Rod Gotfried @thetravelographer, Shane Trimby @smtrimby, Lea Greene @lensy_lea_, Shane Loweke @inessencephotography_aus, Jason Vant Padje @Therawphoto, Sarah Latham @_sarahlatham, John Doolan @iamwaltstreet, Ros Lording @roslording, Victoria Fiorentino @vikfiorentino, Jodie Bray @jodielbray, Kasra Mohebbi @kasram88, Lauren Boustead @lozziebowie, Jay Lynch @jay_lynch1, Jack Colquhoun @jack__colquhoun, Alyssa Giannoni @alyssa_adventuring, Kate Richards @adventuremumma, Jemma Craig @islandjems and Jhay Baniaga @iamtitanium85.
Mr de Waal said Instagram was proving a popular way of promoting the region with almost 40,000 followers of the @tropicalnorthqueensland Instagram account.
“Travellers today are using Instagram to capture and share their travel photos with friends and family,” he said.
“A picture truly is worth a thousand words and our new Instamap will inspire visitors to TNQ to get out and explore some of the most scenic locations in the region.
“It is a highly successful advocacy strategy for our region and the Instamap should further raise the profile of Tropical North Queensland.”
The Instamap is available online at bit.ly/TNQInstabook and will be included in Passport to Tropical North Queensland, a new visitor magazine of 200,000 copies published by The Cairns Post to be distributed to visitors arriving in the region through Cairns Airport, from next Wednesday April 15. Selected Visitor Information Centres will also have copies.
