Quay West Suites - Spectacular views over Sydney Harbour

Quay West Suites Sydney
Quay West Suites Sydney is a popular 5 star hotel offering guests self-contained comfort in apartment style living. All of the 96 one, two or three bedroom suites are beautifully appointed with full kitchens, laundries and bathrooms.

I recently stayed with my wife and daughter in one of the large one bedroom suites.

Coming from country NSW, we travelled to Sydney by train to Central Station, then changed trains to Circular Quay and walked the short distance to the the Quay West Suites.

Lobby flowers
We entered through the front entrance in Gloucester Street, and were immediately impressed by the vibrant colours of the floral display in the lobby. Check-in was speedy with the friendly and professional lady at the front reception desk. The polite concierge offered to take our bags up to our suite. We used the security key card to access one of the speedy lifts and enter our suite on one of the higher floors. We were totally impressed with the large size of the suite and the spectacular panoramic views over Sydney Harbour. A note from the manager with a selection of nuts, dried and fresh fruit welcomed us. The concierge soon arrived with our bags, and we made ourselves a cup of tea and drank it on the balcony enjoying the expansive view.

Quay West Suites welcome
The separate stylish living room was ideal for entertainment and relaxation. A flat screen TV provided a range of digital channels for viewing. The room had a sofa-bed, which our daughter slept on and found to be very comfortable. A large work desk with phone and stationery supplies would have come in handy if I was in work mode. It was good to be able to sit down at the dining table and chairs to eat without juggling plates on our laps.

Quay West Suites kitchen
The fully-equipped kitchen with granite benches had various cooking options including an oven, glass-top hotplates, toaster and microwave. Cooking utensils, plates, glasses, cups and mugs were plentiful. Tea and coffee making facilities included an electric kettle, milk in one of the two fridges, and a range of gourmet and de-caffeinated coffee and black, green and peppermint tea.

The separate laundry housed a washing machine, electric clothes dryer, iron and ironing board.

Quay West Suites bedroom
Sleeping on the very comfortable king sized bed in the separate bedroom was a dream, with clean fresh linen and several pillows to choose from. A flat screen TV was at the foot of the bed to enable late night TV viewing whilst in bed. A large inbuilt wardrobe with plenty of hanging space would have held far more clothes than we had with us on our short stay. The bedside tables came complete with an iPod docking station.

Quay West Suites bathroom
The granite and marble bathroom had a toilet, bath, and separate shower. A good range of quality Appelles Apothecary Lab amenities included - Rosemary Leaf body bar soap, Comfrey Australian Lemon Myrtle Sandalwood  Rosalina hand & body wash, Vitamin B5 Mandarin Peel Rosemary & Cinnamon Bark skin solution, Wheat Protein Blue Mallee Eucalyptus & Lemongrass shampoo & Planifolia Australian Sandalwood & Kakadu Plum conditioner. With all these wonderful Australian ingredients, they not only felt good on the skin, but they smelt divine. A vanity kit, bathing cap, sanitary bag and hair dryer were also provided. There was even an additional phone.

Quay West Suites balcony view
Views from inside the suite through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and from the balcony were most impressive. We had glorious panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a cruise liner moored at Circular Quay, and the Sydney Opera House. The daytime view turned into a glistening light show once darkness fell. I could only feel envious of the people lucky enough to stay at the Quay West Suites to see the fireworks on New Years Eve from their own balconies.

The suite featured both adjustable air-conditioning and opening windows for fresh air. On two occasions I called the reception desk and I was impressed with the service given. The first time was when I had trouble connecting my laptop to the wi-fi internet service. I was impressed that they sent up a staff member immediately to attend the issue. The second was when I arranged a wake-up call for our last morning, as our daughter needed to catch an early train back to her home. This wake-up call came right on the time selected.

There are various options for meals for the guests staying at the Quay West Suites. Guests can enjoy the cuisine at Harrington Restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner or relax with a drink in Harrington Bar which is located on the mezzanine floor. Room service is a good option as all suites come with a dining table and chairs. For those desiring to to eat out there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding Rocks and Circular Quay areas.

Quay West Suites pool and spa
One of the best parts of staying at the Quay West Suites is the leisure facilities provided on the 23rd floor. The recreation deck features a spectacular indoor Roman bath-style pool, spa, sauna and gymnasium. We spent several hours on the last morning enjoying the warmth of the heated pool, the two types of jets in the spa, and the heat of the sauna. Views over the city were unsurpassed through the pool windows and from the outdoor sun decks.

For people looking for a unique business or function venue, the Quay West Suites feature a boutique conference venue with three well-appointed, naturally-lit function rooms catering to up to 80 delegates.

night view from Quay West Suites
The Quay West Suites is ideally located in The Rocks area of Sydney. Until our stay there I was not familiar with its 3 street frontages - Gloucester, Essex and Harrington. It was good to discover these quieter streets other than the busy ones I already knew like George and Pitt Streets. Valet parking is available for those driving in the basement car park, or taxis can deliver to the front door in Gloucester Street. For those using public transport, the Quay West Suites is just a short walk from the ferries, trains and buses at Circular Quay. The concierge pointed out a handy shortcut through another building that alleviated the need to walk up the hill to the front entrance.

Quay West Suites lobby
The location of the Quay West Suites makes them ideal for any leisure or business stay in Sydney. This Sydney accommodation is within a short walking distance from Sydney's major tourist attractions and business centre. Their apartment style with well equipped kitchen, laundry, bathroom, bedrooms, living room and dining room makes them ideal for the person or family wanting a longer stay, as they can be self-contained in their guest accommodation.

Our stay at the Quay West Suites Sydney was most enjoyable. We were impressed with the huge size of our suite and all its inclusions. The views from our suite over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House were amazing. The cleanliness of the suite was impeccable, and the personal service by the staff, especially the concierge, was wonderful. We cannot wait to experience the Quay West Suites Sydney again on our next visit to Sydney.
