TOP GEAR FESTIVAL SYDNEY IGNITES OLD RIVALRY

Top Gear Festival Sydney will bring old sporting rivalry to the track this April, with UK presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May set to take on an all-star Australian team in an epic motoring battle called “The Cr-Ashes”.

Featuring Sidecar Polo and V8 Cricket, along with a high speed relay race, a radio controlled obstacle race, crowd favourite Car Soccer, and for the first time, a Car Rugby Penalty Shootout, The Cr-Ashes will have the audience cheering from the sidelines.

Richard Hammond said of Car Rugby: "I haven't played car rugby before but if it's anything like rugby at school, my main objective will be to avoid getting maimed and killed."

The Australian Team is well-placed to take out the Englishmen, with Top Gear Australia hosts Shane Jacobson and Steve Pizzati to be joined by V8 Supercars’ anchor Riana Crehan and 2007 and 2011 MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner.

The bumper program will also include race series, drifting, supercar parades, freestyle motocross, drag racing and tributes to some Australian motoring icons. An “Ultimate Speed Showdown” will see up to 12 different vehicles from all sides of the motoring spectrum go head-to head, from a V8 Supercar and V8 ute to a NASCAR from the USA. A Ferrari parade will impress with up to 20 spectacular vehicles on track at the same time.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase encouraged fans to get along to Sydney Motorsport Park in April for the Festival.

“Top Gear Festival Sydney is a fantastic event for the whole family, with entertainment for motorsport enthusiasts, kids, and anyone who enjoys watching the television show. Destination NSW is proud to have partnered with the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC) for this Western Sydney event, and I encourage visitors to purchase their tickets now and start planning a high-octane weekend they’re sure to remember,” Ms Chipchase said.

Top Gear Festival Sydney will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-19 April. For further information, visit Sydney.com
