The World Championship Campdraft at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

Day five of the Show is here and our judges are getting to work on our rats and mice and choosing
the best beef in the Show. The unique Aussie horse sport Campdrafting gets serious on Monday.

Oh, Rats!

For the first four days it’s been all about the sheep, cattle, and pigs. But no Show would be complete without rats and mice!

Head to the Domestic Animal Pavilion to pet and play with these furry creatures. Be sure to stick around for the crowning of Grand Champion Rat and Mouse.

With over eleven breeds judged across thirty classes, you won’t want to miss this thirteen year old competition that has a cult following at the Show.

Simply the Best – The Hordern and Urquhart Perpetual Trophies

It’s a battle of the best of the best today at the Show as some of the finest beef cattle from across the country go head to head for two of the most prestigious cattle awards in Australia. 

With a history of over 30 years, it’s no wonder the Hordern and Urquhart Perpetual Trophies are so prestigious.

Each breed puts forward its best pair (male and female grand champion for their breed) to be judged against every other breed. Judges declare the best pair the winners of the Hordern Perpetual Trophy.

The Urquhart trophy is awarded to the supreme beef exhibit (either male or female) from all the breed grand champions.

With approximately 1,100 beef cattle on grounds during judging, it’s easy to understand why cattle breeders flock to the cattle lawns to watch this spectacular show of fine beef genetics.

This year respected Canadian judge Dawn Wilson returns to the Sydney Royal to run her experienced eye over Australia’s best.

You can catch these events at the cattle judging lawn beginning at 11am for the Urquhart competition and the Hordern to follow at 1pm.

Unique Australian sport rides into the Easter Show

The World Championship Campdraft has ‘cut’ into the Royal Easter Show this year. Campdraft is the sport of ‘cutting’ or controlling a steer with outstanding horsemanship.

Campdrafting is a distinctly Australian sport that involves a horse and rider working cattle around a course at full gallop.

The top 14 participants from around Australia are competing for the prestigious award of World Champion of Campdrafting.

Gallop on down to Spotless Stadium today at 4.20pm to witness the action. The final will take place on Wednesday 1st of April at 4.30pm where the prestigious title of world champion will be awarded.
