AIDA SET TO IMPRESS AT TONIGHT’S OPENING OF HANDA OPERA ON SYDNEY HARBOUR

The countdown is on to tonight’s opening of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, which is set to surprise audiences with one of the world’s most spectacular outdoor opera events. Aida, a story of forbidden love between the Egyptian leader Radames and the beautiful Ethiopian princess, Aida, is an opera in four acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi in 1871.

Since 2012 Destination NSW has partnered with Opera Australia to secure Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour to produce an ‘only in Sydney’ outstanding event experience.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said the event provided a boost to the local visitor economy and has attracted more than 11,300 overseas and interstate visitors since 2012 and contributed $20 million in visitor expenditure into the NSW economy.

“Set on Sydney Harbour against the striking backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, this world-class production is a truly awesome event.

This year’s Aida will surprise audiences with its spectacular set and stage design and again provide a truly unique outdoor experience,” Ms Chipchase said.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to Sydney for this event and I encourage everyone to take some time out to explore our buzzing nightlife, world-class restaurants and outstanding cultural attractions while they are here,” she said.

Tickets can be purchased online.
