This lush coastal and hinterland region in NSW Australia is well known for the diversity of its local produce that includes everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to fine wine, dairy products and fabulous cheese, beautiful seafood, a range of honeys, and succulent Clyde River and Sydney rock oysters. In fact there's an entire event, the annual Narooma Oyster Festival in May, dedicated to this local star gourmet attraction.
The Eurobodalla area has three major oyster farming rivers at Tuross, on the Clyde River at Batemans Bay and at Wagonga Inlet, near Narooma. You'll find a good selection of restaurants, bistros and cafes nearby serving fresh local seafood and other local produce.
Dining highlights include On the Pier at Batemans Bay, recognised for its fine seafood, and The River at Moruya with a sensational menu sourced from local seasonal produce. At Tuross Boatshed and Cafe you can hire a boat to fish on the lake or dine on fresh local oysters and seafood on the river's edge.
Eurobodalla is one of the oldest dairying regions in NSW and has been producing quality cheeses since the 1870s. Sample great cheese and join a cheese-making course taught the traditional old-fashioned way at the ABC Cheese Factory in Central Tilba. A range of dairy products is also produced locally at the 1950s-style Bodalla Dairy Shed. Fresh milk comes in from the dairy every morning to make rustic cheeses with native flavours, as well as traditional milkshakes, great coffees, yoghurt and ice-creams.
Local farmers' markets are another great place to see and savour seasonal food and produce. Spend your Saturday morning at the Moruya Country Market and Tilba Growers Market. Pick your own berries and stone fruit at the Clyde River Berry Farm.
Eurobodalla is also home to some of the finest local fortified wines and cellars. Visit Elysium Wines and Tilba Valley Wines.
