SOCCER LEGENDS SET FOR KICK-OFF

Legendary English soccer club Tottenham Hotspur will exclusively visit Sydney in May, to play a blockbuster match against local club Sydney FC. Tottenham will play Sydney FC on Saturday 30 May at ANZ Stadium, which will end a bumper week of sport in Sydney, with the Waratahs playing the Crusaders in a Super Rugby Grand Final rematch on Saturday 23 May, and the first match of the State of Origin series taking place on Wednesday 27 May.

The game was secured for Sydney by Destination NSW in partnership with ANZ Stadium. The match is expected to contribute more than $8 million to the State economy in visitor expenditure.

This match continues the recent history of major European soccer teams secured exclusively for Sydney, with English champions Manchester United visiting in 2013 and Italian giants Juventus visiting last year.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said the match will be a central part of a packed sporting calendar for NSW in 2015.

“The Tottenham Hotspur match is part of an events calendar that is packed with major sporting events secured for NSW, including the State of Origin, ICC Cricket World Cup, Bledisloe Cup, Netball World Cup, Touch Football World Cup and many more,” Ms Chipchase said.

“The match will also coincide with Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, so visitors to NSW for the match will also be able to take in Australia's Event of the Year while they are here.”
