Melbourne's Highest High Tea; Melbourne Star Launches Star Experience Packages

Melbourne's love affair with the classic afternoon tea has reached a new high - literally.

Melbourne Star Observation Wheel has launched its innovative range of Star Experience packages. The packages offer guests a private cabin on the only giant observation wheel in the Southern Hemisphere along with a selection from a gourmet food and beverage menu, delivered and served by Melbourne's leading caterer Peter Rowland Catering.

Topping the list of dining options is a classic High Tea, which takes on a whole new meaning given that home-made scones, delicate finger sandwiches and petite chocolate éclairs and other pastries will be enjoyed in one of the Melbourne Star’s air-conditioned glass cabins while taking in unobstructed 360-degree views across the city's CBD and Port Phillip Bay and as far as Mount Macedon and the Dandenong Ranges.

As well as the High Tea, the extensive Star Experience Packages menu offers choices to suit any occasion. Choose from Sky's the Limit (assorted sashimi and sushi, and a prawn, oyster and cured salmon seafood box), Star 360 (blini with smoked salmon, wild mushroom and white truffle frittata), and Melbourne by Dark (cheese selection), and much more. All packages include a choice of Victorian wines.

Premium cocktail packages for a minimum of 10 guests are also offered, with a full beverage trolley and an option for hot canapés.

"Our Star Experience Packages redefine dining-with-a-view in Melbourne," Melbourne Star CEO Chris Kelly said.

"They have been carefully developed to cater to a wide range of guests, from a couple wanting a memorable romantic interlude to groups wanting to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, engagement or anniversary through to tourists looking to enjoy fine local food while taking in a unique perspective of Melbourne and businesses wanting to mark a key milestone with employees and clients. And every package comes with the experience, attention to detail and superior service that is standard with Peter Rowland Catering."

Each Star Experience Packages starts with a set price for two people. For example, the High Tea page is $709 for two people in an exclusive cabin at a confirmed departure time. However, it is only $40 per extra person, up to a maximum of 14 people. That means a group of 14 could enjoy high tea while riding the Melbourne Star for only $85 per person.

There is also the option of staying on the Melbourne Star to enjoy a second rotation - more time to enjoy the food, wine and spectacular views.

According to Peter Rowland Catering, the challenge behind the Star Experience Packages was creating delicious food that could be seamlessly transported onto a cabin, served and enjoyed during the 30-minute rotation.

"We wanted to create a range of memorable experiences for all occasions and ages," John Isherwood, Peter Rowland Catering CEO, said. "Enjoying quality food and wine on a giant observation wheel is truly a unique experience that cannot be enjoyed anywhere else within the Southern Hemisphere"
