A Global Celebration of Muay Thai
Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, this internationally acclaimed event celebrates the deep-rooted traditions of Muay Thai while showcasing its global influence. Under the theme “Once in a Lifetime: Experience the Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony in Thailand,” this gathering attracts martial artists, enthusiasts, and travelers from across the world.
Held at the historic Wat Mahathat and Wat Langkha Khao, the ceremony is a highlight of the Thailand Summer Festivals 2025, reinforcing Muay Thai’s role as a Soft Power asset and cultural treasure.
Martial Arts and Cultural Showcases – 16-17 March (15:00-21:00 Hrs.)
Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich heritage of Muay Thai through live demonstrations of traditional fighting styles:
Muay Chaiya (Southern Thailand) – Focuses on defensive counterattacks.
Muay Korat (Northeast) – Known for its powerful strikes.
Muay Tha Sao (North) – Emphasizes speed and agility.
Muay Lop Buri (Central) – Recognized for its deceptive movements.
Beyond martial arts, the event showcases Thailand’s cultural heritage through traditional crafts such as Sak Yant (sacred tattooing), Yantra Drawing, and Sword Forging. The Muay Thai Academy Showcase offers interactive training with expert fighters, while an exhibition on the 19 Levels of Mongkhon traces a fighter’s journey from novice to master.
Additional attractions include cultural performances, an Ancient Thai Market with authentic cuisine, and live Muay Thai bouts featuring both professional and amateur fighters.
The Grand Wai Kru Ceremony – 17 March (17:00-21:00 Hrs.)
The pinnacle of the event is the Grand Wai Kru Ceremony, where thousands of Muay Thai practitioners gather to pay homage to their masters. This sacred ritual will be led by some of the sport’s biggest names, including Prajanchai P.K. Saenchai Muay Thai Gym, Ferrari Fairtex, Yodkaikaew “Y2K” Fairtex, and Saemapetch Fairtex.
The event concludes with a celebratory fighter’s banquet, providing a networking opportunity for Muay Thai practitioners and fans from around the world.
An Unmissable Cultural Experience
Mrs. Chiravadee Khunsub, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, highlights the significance of the event, stating: “This annual World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony not only reinforces Muay Thai’s importance but also drives Experience-Based Tourism, inspiring travelers while boosting the economy.”
Ayutthaya’s Vice Governor, Praphan Tribubpha, emphasizes the event’s cultural and economic impact, noting: “Hosting this ceremony in Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases Thailand’s rich traditions while supporting local tourism and businesses.”
With over 800 international fighters and thousands of spectators expected, this event is a must-attend for anyone passionate about Muay Thai, history, or immersive cultural experiences.
