Highlight of Seattle: Capitol Hill

Seattle proudly welcomes visitors to enjoy in a city that is safe and friendly to all. April 10 is International Day of Pink, aiming to celebrate visibility in all its forms which spotlights the Capitol Hill neighbourhood, famous for being a focal point for the LGBTQ+ scene.

Seattle will celebrate its 50th annual Pride Month with festivities with this year’s theme, ‘Community Voice’.

This cool and diverse district abounds with LGBTQ+ businesses, homey cafes, and one-of-a-kind shops.

The handsome Seattle Asian Art Museum (1400 E Prospect St) and the verdant, glass-paneled Volunteer Park Conservatory (1400 E Galer St) are lovely spaces to while away an afternoon at 50-acre Volunteer Park (1247 15th Ave E), which also offers tranquil walking paths and eye-popping city and mountain views. Among Capitol Hill’s many LGBTQ+ bars, dance and mingle the night away at Neighbours (1509 Broadway) and the Wildrose (1021 E Pike St).

Many of the neighborhood’s favorite restaurants specialize in cuisines from around the world, such as Biang Biang Noodles (601 E Pike St), serving Chinese cumin-lamb noodles and fried tofu bao, and Sankaku Onigiri Cafe & Bar (1531 Melrose Ave), which prepares tasty salmon-basil rice balls, seaweed salad, and fine sakes inside the hip Melrose Market (1527 Melrose Ave) food hall. Head to friendly Tacos Chukis (219 Broadway E) for top-notch tacos and burritos, refreshing horchatas, and jamaica agua frescas; and casual Paparepas (1620 Broadway) for authentic Venezuelan cooking.

Energize your day with bagels, pastries, and house-made chai at cozy Cafe Argento (1125 E Olive St) or Overcast Coffee Company (312 15th Ave E), near Volunteer Park. The artisan chocolate shop and cafe Rey Amargo (722 E Pike St) doles out sweets and drinks crafted with stone-ground Mexican chocolate. Adorable Mitten Sweets and Coffee (509 13th Ave) specializes in Japanese-inspired French pastries like black-sesame square doughnuts and yuzu lemon cakes, and you can treat yourself to luscious small-batch ice creams at Sweet Alchemy (1424 11th Ave). Art- and plant-filled Footprint Wine Tap (1222 E Madison St) pours some of the Pacific Northwest’s best wines alongside cheese, charcuterie, and veggie boards, and casually hip Post Pike Bar & Cafe (212 Broadway E) serves creative cocktails, local ales, and hefty sandwiches until late in the evening.
