Big wins for Northern Territory in tourism awards

Some of the Northern Territory’s best venues and operators have been honoured in the recent 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Announced on Friday, 15 March, 2024, Darwin Convention Centre – which is managed by ASM Global – took gold in the best business events venue category in the awards that are the Australian tourism industry’s national standard of excellence.

Darwin Convention Centre – which hosted the awards ceremony – won gold in the same category in 2021 and took silver in 2022.

Katherine Outback Experience also won gold in the best tourist attraction category, and bronze in the excellence in accessible tourism category.

The company also won gold in 2021 followed by silver in 2022.

Darwin Festival achieved bronze in the major festivals and events category, having won gold in 2022.

In the tour and transport operators category, NT Bird Specialists – Birding, Wildlife & Photographic Safaris won bronze, with its world-class birding and ecotourism experiences showcasing the spectacular nature-based offerings available in the Northern Territory.

“These wins by our industry partners highlight the Northern Territory’s ability to consistently deliver inspiring and meaningful experiences, showcasing how we are different in every sense for business events,” says Rebecca McCaig, director of Northern Territory Business Events.

The future for business events in the Northern Territory is looking bright with a surge in domestic and international aviation services to the region, plus exciting new venues in the pipeline.
