Suigo Itako Iris Festival |
At the peak of their bloom, a rainbow of colors including white, purple and yellow carpet the entire area in a truly captivating display.
The Suigo Itako Iris Festival, held every year from late May to the end of June, offers many other exciting sights and attractions, including traditional guided rowboat tours, and stunning nighttime illuminations.
In particular, the tradition of ‘Yomeiri-Bune’ is a must-see. Brides dressed in traditional white kimono are rowed down the canal to meet their lucky groom. This custom dates back to the time when boats were the primary method of transportation in the area. Enjoy watching the emotional scenes as the rowing boat glides forward and well-wishers look on from the riverbanks.
