Stomp, bop, swing or sway your way down to Dunsborough, Busselton and Margaret River this June long weekend to experience a feast of live music entertainment for the seventh annual Jazz by the Bay.
Guest artists from the northern hemisphere and closer to home, plus the first of many exciting events have already been confirmed for this popular music festival (31 May to 3 June 2019).
Critically acclaimed Australian-American vocalist-composer, Chris McNulty will perform at this year's festival for the first time.
She has been hailed by musicians, peers and critics as an artist with a unique vision, boundless creative energy and a distinctive style.
Sought-after Jazz trumpeter Ashlin Parker from New Orleans will also experience his first Jazz by the Bay and his high energy engaging performances will be sure to wow music fans.
The festival welcomes the return of New York-based Nerissa Campbell, who enthralled jazz lovers with her perfomances last year thanks to her ethereal vocal and song writing style. Nerissa has been described as an "enigmatic art-rock/chamber jazz singer" by New York Music daily.
She'll be joined by fellow WAAPA graduate and award-winning Afro-Peruvian drum specialist Daniel Susnjar, who wowed guests at last year's Jazz by the Bay.
2019 will also see the return of more festival favourites for some show-stopping, foot-stomping events.
Caves Road Collective, on Caves Road Wilyabrup, will become a swinging dance hall when Perth's jazz, rhythm and blues performers, Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, hit the boards and rock the room!
They'll bring the best of their repertoire from the 1940s and '50s and beyond to this versatile venue. Like the songmen from these eras, these gents are showmen and you'll be guaranteed an unforgettable night. For event details visit the festival website.
Dine out on delectable jazz served hot by soulful vocalist Holli Scott at Euro Jazz Club at Rustico at Hayshed Hill.
Holli made her Jazz by the Bay festival debut in 2015 and returns with her trio to perform polished jazz standards and original music keeping with the jazz genre. Paired with Rustico's sensational tapas and Hayshed Hill wines this will be a treat for all the senses.
Holli will also perform On the Green in Dunsborough over the Jazz by the Bay weekend with her band The Rush Hour Circus. Joining her in the two-day program will be Trumpeter Ashlin Parker, Festival favourite jazz song siren Jessie Gordonperforming with five-piece gypsy jazz band Sassafras, plus more still to be announced.
The concert on the Green gives the public two days of world class musical performances, for free!
These curated public concerts, held on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June from 10am to 4pm, are made possible thanks to support from the City of Busselton, Lotterywest and Tourism Western Australia.
Other performers already confirmed to perform in gorgeous venues across Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River are local favourites Michelle Spriggs Trio, JazzTrix, Hoots, plus Perth-based artists Freddie Grigson & Allira, and Bonnie Scott's Jazz Duo.
Event Director Cindy Wiese said 2019 was shaping up to provide one of the richest musical experiences yet.
“Visitors can expect a choice of over 40 music, wine and gourmet food experiences over four days.
“We're a bit different to other music festivals because our region's food, wine and beauty are features of the program alongside the incredible music talent.
“There's also a rich range of both free and ticketed events planned to appeal to people who love music, dancing and live performances, to the true jazz aficionados,” she said.
