The Tourism Association of Binh Thuan aims to lure 6.3 million visitors to the south-central province in 2019, including 750,000 foreigners, as well as promoting its image as a friendly and safe tourist destination.
To that end, the association will coordinate with the provincial centre for tourism information promotion to build an advertisement strategy to introduce the local tourism sector abroad, while developing the typical tourism products of Binh Thuan.
Addressing a conference of the association on March 7, its chairman, Nguyen Van Khoa, said that it will work with the local government to seek measures to clean up the environment and prevent debris along beaches.
Initially, the association will call on its members to clear beaches and increase the consumption of natural and environmentally-friendly products rather than plastics, he said.
Participants at the conference held that over the past few years, Binh Thuan has paid due attention to promoting Mui Ne and a lack of effort in popularising other tourist areas such as Long Son, Suoi Nuoc, and Nam Phan Thiet.
They proposed changes in promotion programmes with more connected products to create a more balanced tourism sector for the province.
Local travel firms also pointed out the need to upgrade tourism infrastructure, including the building of Phan Thiet airport. They called for the Phan Thiet City People’s Committee to apply stricter regulations in order to prevent waste in beaches.
In 2018, Binh Thuan, with its resort capital of Mui Ne, attracted over 5.75 million visitors, up 12 percent over 2017; which included 675,000 foreigners, a rise of 14 percent year-on-year. The province earned over 12.8 trillion VND from tourism in the year, an increase of 18.8 percent over 2017.
Last year, the province granted investment licences to nine new tourism projects, raising the total number of such projects to 390 with the combined investment of over 60 trillion VND. Currently, 184 projects are operational.
