IRISH FILM FESTIVAL OPENING NIGHT FILM SET TO BE A KNOCKOUT

5th Annual Irish Film Festival Announces Opening Night Film

The Irish Film Festival returns to Sydney and Melbourne this May and is excited to announce their award winning opening night film, which has already gained international acclaim at the Cork Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.

The Festival officially launches in each city is Float like a Butterfly, an uplifting drama from the producers of Sing Street and the Oscar winning filmOnce. Set in 1972 when Muhammad Ali was set to fight in Dublin, the film follows Frances, a young Irish traveller girl, with big dreams of becoming a champion boxer.

This year’s festival begins in Sydney with a community screening of Unquiet Graves in Penrith on Wednesday 01 May, followed by the official opening Night Gala which will take place at the Chauvel in Paddington on Thursday 02 May, along with the now legendary Opening Night Party afterwards. The festival runs in the Chauvel until Sunday 05 May.

The Melbourne leg of the festival takes place at the Kino Cinema in Collins Street from Thursday 09 May until Saturday 12 May.

The Irish Film Festival is a candid glimpse into Irish culture for Australian audiences young and old. Whether you have family ties, a keen interest in history and culture or just an affinity for the Emerald Isle, the Irish Film Festival is Celtic cinema at its best.

Tickets go on Sale on Wednesday 03 April, 2019.
