Wendy and Corrie Create a Unique Map of Airlie Beach

Two creative Whitsunday women have put their talent together and spent the best part of a year designing, painting and writing a colourful, unique insider's guide to Airlie Beach. Wendy and Corrie's Map of Airlie Beach is fun, arty and full of information on everything a visitor to the lively Queensland tourist town needs to know.

Wendy and Corrie have produced a colourful, advertising-free tourist guide full of original artworks, local knowledge and honest recommendations which is available for purchase from Airlie Beach tourist shops and the tourist information centre at Proserpine. Corrie Gardner says, “I love collecting tourist maps when I travel and ever since I moved to Airlie Beach 10 years ago this has been a goal of mine. When I met Wendy and saw her art I knew that she could help me bring this idea to life. From how to get here to where to stay, shop, eat, exercise, top 20 favourite things to do and what to do with the kids, the map is so much more than just a map.”

The map includes Wendy and Corrie's hints and tips to making the most of a visit to Airlie Beach. There is a directory listing of all the businesses in the main street with additional information about Port of Airlie, Abell Point Marina, Shingley Beach and Cannonvale. There is no other map quite like this which includes so much useful information and contact details for local businesses. The duo have also set up a Facebook page and website as they realise one of their biggest challenges is that many retail businesses come and go. They will update information on the Facebook page in-between new print editions of the map.

Corrie Gardner has over thirty years of experience in communications and PR and has lived in Sri Lanka, Thailand and the USA before “retiring” to Airlie Beach. She has run her PR and communications consultancy since 2007 and keeps her finger on the pulse of the town promoting many local businesses and events. Wendy Eriksson is an award winning artist, author, book publisher, teacher, crepe maker, graphic designer, mother, wife and business manager who has a multitude of projects on the go. Born in the UK, she has lived in Italy and Australia and travelled the world before choosing to live in Airlie Beach with her adventurer husband and three daughters.

Wendy has illustrated the map in a fun and colourful way with original artworks based on many of Airlie Beach's buildings and outdoor activities. Wendy is also exhibiting a selection of the paintings from the map at the Art Whitsunday Gallery at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre during August. Wendy has a fresh, contemporary style and sells her artworks in Australia and around the world. Wendy says, “this has been such an enjoyable project and there were so many activities and local landmarks to paint. Airlie Beach is a constant source of inspiration for an artist, with its bright colours, stunning light and beautiful vistas.”

Wendy and Corrie's Map of Airlie Beach is a fabulous 'go to' resource for anyone visiting the area and is retailing for $9.95. Go to www.airliebeachmap.com if you would like to know more about this new, unique guide to Airlie Beach.
