MATILDA THE MUSICAL OFFICIALLY PREMIERES

Matilda The Musical officially premiered at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre last week. The musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

It is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl and features lyrics by Australian performer Tim Minchin.

Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Matilda The Musical first played at Stratford-Upon-Avon in 2010, before appearing on Broadway and London’s West End. The musical has received widespread critical acclaim, winning five Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards.

The Australian Premiere season of the musical was secured exclusively for Sydney by the NSW Government through Destination NSW.
