Hoi An Flower Lantern Festival aims to create new tourism products and includes many activities such as the opening ceremony; the parade of monks group and members of Buddhist Sangha from Phap Bao Temple to An Hoi Statute Garden; releasing animals and floating flower lanterns; program Bong hong cai ao (Roes to be set on shirts) and other programs to honor mothers and examples of filial piety.
Since Januarary 2015, People’s Commmittee of Hoi An City has decided to hold “Hoi An ancient night” twice a month (the 1st and 14th of every lunar month). During the night, from 5p.m to 10p.m, Hoi An Ancient Town switches off its electric lights and shuts down to motorized vehicles, and only the light of lanterns brightens up. This is a magical festival, giving visitors a glimpse of what life may have been when Hoi An was a bustling trade port. Coming to the festival, visitors will be immersed in the light of cardboard lotus flower-shaped lanterns released onto Hoai River. It is believed to bring good luck, love and happiness.
