PORT MACQUARIE'S WORLD HOTEL AWARD

Port Macquarie’s Observatory Hotel has beaten major international competition in taking the Best Sustainable Hotel in Australasia at the 2014 World Boutique Hotel Awards.

The hotel’s green credentials are impeccable. It has the awards to prove it. This year it has also won the Green Globe Awards Premier’s Award and Gold at the NSW Tourism Awards 2014 for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.

The family-owned hotel opposite Town Beach offers guests ethically-minded extras including backpacks with picnic sets to take on coastal walks, bicycle and audio tours around town, environmental-themed books to read and healthy green tea and sushi on arrival.

The judges were also impressed with the behind-the-scenes extras including the hotel’s 10-year Green Future program that has seen it lead the Australian hospitality industry in environmental innovation. The Observatory is one of only a few hotels nation-wide to be officially certified as 100 per cent carbon neutral.

The World Boutique Hotel Awards were presented in London with the Observatory beating competition from hotels in Iceland, Thailand and Tanzania.
