What's New in Queensland

Queensland is sprouting all kinds of tourism experiences. Five new hotels are rolling out their welcome mats, two new markets are setting up stalls and a multi-million dollar new Maritime Terminal in Airlie Beach is calling “All Aboard!"

Heal House

Set to open in November 2014, Heal House is a luxury boutique B&B in a newly restored heritage Queenslander house. Located in the heart of the New Farm in Brisbane, this prestigious guest house offers three contemporary designed suites and quick access to local attractions like the Brisbane Powerhouse, The Story Bridge and Kangaroo Point Cliffs.

Takarakka Bush Resort

Takarakka Bush Resort officially reopened its doors on October 17 following a half a million dollar renovation. Located in the heart of the majestic cliffs of the Carnarvon Gorge some 300 km south west of Rockhampton, the investment saw tsix new modern studios and a state-of-the-art Night Sky Observatory added to a lineup of powered and unpowered camp sites, safari tents, ensuited cabins and a self-contained cottage.

ULTIQA Resorts

The Holiday Club Pacific (THC Pacific) has launched a new hotel brand, ULTIQA Resorts, following the rebranding of four Queensland properties. The line-up includes Air on Broadbeach and Freshwater Point Resort on the Gold Coast, Shearwater Resort on the Sunshine Coast and Rothbury on Ann in Brisbane.

Hotel Jen

The Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts Group has introduced Australia's first Hotel Jen, a 191-room four-star property near Roma Parklands in Brisbane. Phase one of the rebranded hotel features a new mural entrance commissioned and designed by Brisbane artists and a sixth floor organic SkyGarden endorsing a garden-to-plate dining concept - growing vegetables and producing honey onsite from three bee hives. Phase two will be unveiled in January 2015, including Nest, a two million dollar Asian fusion restaurant, lounge and bar.

New Tourism Products


Cruise Whitsundays

Cruise Whitsundays has officially moved operations to the brand new state-of-the-art 15 million dollar Maritime Terminal at the Port of Airlie in Airlie Beach. A gateway for all arrivals and departures to and from the Whitsundays Islands, Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach, the terminal is also a hub for guests to enjoy airport style check-in, alfresco dining and last minute shopping at the gift shops.

Fortitude Valley Markets

Fortitude Valley Markets have returned to Brisbane, this time bigger and better. Stretching from Liquorice Lane to the Chinatown Mall, the markets are held weekly from 9am-4pm on Saturdays and from 9am-3pm on Sundays. The new pop-up shops sell a range of local designs, art, sculpture, fashion, home wares, collectibles, food and fresh produce.

Bunya Mountains Markets

Bunya Mountains Markets, the new creative markets, are held from 9am-2pm on the last Sunday of each month. Visitors can spend the day strolling through hand-made gift stalls, eating fresh seafood straight from a Sunshine Coast Trawler and exploring the nearby National Park walking trails. And, it's all in the name of a good cause - with profits raised from the markets donated to Youngcare. To get there, jump in a car or take a Stonestreets coach from Toowoomba.
