Dubai is Now On Google Street View

Launched in the United States in 2007 Google Street View which is available in most of the cities of developed countries has been launched in Dubai to allow tourists to visit the city virtually in a more realistic way then Google maps.

Dubai has become a hub of modern culture and the top destination for hotels and tourists across the globe. It is the first Arab city to have a complete Google Street View.

Dubai is located in a region where local population is protective of their conservative culture. Like in other countries across the world, Street View in Dubai blurs out people’s faces and vehicle license plates. It does not cover the private residential areas.

Street View now covers Sheikh Zayed Road-the longest road in the Emirates running parallel to the coast line along with the majestic Dubai Mall. Historical sites such as Deira Spice Souk and Dubai Creek have also been included.

The launch of Google Street was applicable as soon as Google collaborated with Dubai Municipality for the project throughout the past nine months.

Najeeb Jarrar, product marketing manager at Google in the Middle East and North Africa said the company now hopes to roll out Street View in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the United Arab Emirates very soon.

Street View has expanded throughout much of the Western world and is already being used in 3,000 cities across 63 countries, as well as parts of the Arctic and Antarctica.

According to Abdul Hakim Malik, director of geographic information systems at Dubai Municipality, which worked with the company on permissions for the project, Street View will indirectly promote tourism to Dubai.
