2014 Australian Surf Festival Heads to Coffs Harbour

The Australian Surf Festival – the largest gathering of surfers in the country – is moving to Coffs Harbour for the next three years.

Since 2008, almost 400 surfers from throughout Australia have converged on Port Macquarie for the event, however, from next year the two-week surfing festival will be hosted by Coffs Harbour.

The Australian Surf Festival comprises four amateur events, including: Australian Longboard Titles; Australian Logger Titles; Australian Surfmasters Titles and Australian Single Fin Titles.

“The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, is proud to support the Australian Surf Festival, which this year delivered an estimated net economic impact of more than half a million dollars to the local economy", said Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris. "I congratulate the festival organisers on the event’s outstanding track record and look forward to its
continuing success in its new location.”

Minister for Sport, Gabrielle Upton said that the festival represented an important milestone on the national surfing calendar.

“The Australian Surf Festival is fast becoming an iconic Australian sporting event,” Ms Upton said. “The festival offers not only the chance to see some spectacular surfing, but also an exciting range of associated activities involving music and art and surf culture.”

Surfing Australia Chief Executive Officer Andrew Stark said Coffs Harbour will provide an ideal venue for the event.

“The Australian Surf Festival is a highlight of our surfing calendar and always provides an amazing level of surfing. Coffs Harbour and the surrounding region boast an incredible variety of waves that work in many different conditions and will provide plenty of quality options for the competitors,” Mr Stark said.

Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase said: “Visitors to the Australian Surf Festival are also encouraged to explore the many beautiful beaches, which mark the coastal perimeter of Coffs Harbour.

Gateway to the Solitary Islands Marine Park, Coffs Harbour offers many aquatic pursuits as well as first-class accommodation, bars, restaurants and a range of great activities for holidaymakers from here and overseas.”
