Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney is celebrating an extremely successful award season for the hotel industry in which the flagship property has been consistently recognised for outstanding service and excellence in hospitality.
In October 2013, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney received two prestigious awards for its commitment to innovative food and dining experiences in Sydney at the 2013 Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) National Awards for Excellence. TAA is Australia’s leading accommodation authority, which welcomed more than 160 finalists to the ceremony following the state-level awards in each category earlier this year. Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney leads the industry with new titles, including ‘Best Restaurant’ for Altitude Restaurant and ‘Chef of the Year’ for 2013 for Executive Sous Chef Bo Sorensen.
Each year, the competition gets tougher as the quality of service continues to soar even higher throughout the accommodation sector. In addition to the above, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney had 12 finalists in the NSW TAA Awards for 2013.
Chef Bo has been a part of the Shangri-La family since February 2007 and works alongside a team of award-winning chefs at the hotel.

Earlier this year, the Hotel Management Awards, hosted by HM Magazine, recognised the accommodation industry’s finest staff, properties, brands and chains across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific in front of almost 600 hoteliers and industry leaders. Colin Toomey, chief concierge at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, won the title of ‘Concierge of the Year’ 2013 for his service in one of the most valued roles in the hotel industry. Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney also featured as a finalist in five other categories at the HM Awards 2013.

Adding another feather to its cap, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney was also declared joint winners for the gold medal in the national Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge 2013. Two rising stars from the Shangri-La family, Felicity Goodchild and Althea Eley teamed up to present a genuine tea-inspired contemporary high tea that won the judges’ hearts and taste buds. The winning team of the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge 2013 will now prepare for the global challenge in 2014.
