Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014, supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW, will take place from 6-10 April and feature new initiatives that make the event more accessible to consumers.
“I am delighted NSW will continue to host Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia for a further two years at Sydney’s Carriageworks,” NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner said.
“In 2012-13, the fashion industry employed over 70,000 people and generated retail sales of around $6.4 billion.
“Beyond the immediate economic impact, we understand the importance of the fashion industry to our State’s tourism offering and Sydney’s standing as a global city, which is why I was proud to launch the NSW Fashion Ambassadors initiative at Fashion Week last year.
“This program has seen local fashion identities like Lara Bingle and designer Kym Ellery paired with influential international fashion media and bloggers brought to Sydney for Fashion Week by Destination NSW, including Bryan Boy and Susie Bubble.”
“In 2014, the NSW Government will again promote the strength of our State’s fashion industry to an international audience through the NSW Fashion Ambassadors initiative.”
For the first time, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014 will feature:
- Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition on 12-13 April, offering the general public a taste of the exclusive invitation-only trade event.
- Shop the Runway, a capsule collection created by MBFWA designers that can be purchased via a live stream or direct from the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition.
“It is exciting to see new initiatives being pioneered in Sydney that will assist in creating even more opportunities and sales for local designers,” Mr Stoner said.
“The new Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition will generate consumer interest by leveraging the buzz and excitement that is generated from showing at Fashion Week.”
