PARRAMASALA INVITES COMMUNITY TO DAZZLE WITH DYNAMIC PARADE

A spectacular multicultural procession of people, floats and animals from all over the world will kick off an amazing long weekend line-up at the fourth annual Parramasala Festival on Friday evening, 4 October, in a colourful and noisy parade.

Organisers are currently seeking cultural groups and dynamic individuals with a passion for performing to participate in the Parramasala Opening Parade to celebrate the diversity and cultural riches of Parramatta and Western Sydney.

One of Australia’s most awarded international producers and director of major events, Di Henry, has been appointed to create the Parramasala Parade. Ms Henry worked on the Sydney Olympic Games Torch Relay and has worked recently on the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“We are seeking more participants with exuberance, unique cultural creative performances and colourful traditional costumes including acrobats, musicians and dancers," Ms Henry said.

The parade will run along Church Street, Parramatta from Town Hall to Prince Alfred Park where the Masala Night Markets will continue the festivities into the night with sensational music and performances from around the world to launch Parramasala 2013. The markets also feature Asian cuisine, fashion, spices, fabrics, arts, crafts and refreshments.

“Western Sydney is a cultural mosaic, and the Parramasala Opening Parade puts the people who are an integral part of this diversity at the forefront of the celebration,” said Festival Director David Malacari.

Parramasala is a key arts and cultural event on the NSW Events Calendar, developed by Destination NSW, on behalf of the NSW Government and Parramatta City Council.
