2013 INLAND NSW TOURISM AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

New South Wales' best inland regional tourism operators and attractions were named last Saturday at the 2013 CountryLink Inland NSW Tourism Awards in Moree.

Attendees from across the state gathered together at the Moree War Memorial Hall on Saturday 27 July for the CountryLink Inland NSW Tourism Award.

The annual award ceremony is hailed as the ‘night of nights’ for the Inland NSW regional tourism industry. The theme for this year’s awards was glitz and glamour of the roaring 20s and 30s.

The winners are now able to compete for finalist positions at the NSW Tourism Awards, which will be held in Sydney, later this year.

“The 10th annual Inland NSW Tourism Awards showcased some of the best tourism attractions, products and operators in NSW,” said Chair of the Awards, Tracey Valenzisi.

“This year, all entrants were of a high calibre. In some categories the marks between finalists were so close that a silver award was given. The winners demonstrated a high standard of professionalism and innovation in their field”.

The INTA Board would like to congratulate all winners and finalists for their contribution to regional NSW tourism. Regional tourism supports almost half of the state’s 162,500 direct tourism jobs and injects more than $11.5 billion into the state’s economy each year.

Winning the Local Government Award for Tourism at the 2013 CountryLink Inland Tourism Awards was Parkes Shire Council.

The local government category is open to all local government authorities and recognises excellence in tourism planning, the provision of tourism facilities and services, marketing, event development and management, and the overall contribution made both locally and overall to their State’s tourism industry.

Parkes Shire Council Mayor Keith said, "Council appreciates that tourism is a major economic driver for the community and it is wonderful to receive recognition for Council's investment in tourism development.

"The expansion of the Henry Parkes Centre tourism precinct, upgrades and improvements to Spicer Caravan Park, operation and investment in Parkes Regional Airport and significant resources channelled into major events such as the Elvis Festival, highlight some of the major activities that featured in Council's submission and demonstrated Council's efforts to grow the visitor economy."

Winners of the Inland Tourism Awards gain finalist status upon entering the NSW State Tourism Awards, and if successful, go onto the National Tourism Awards.

This year's NSW Tourism Awards will be held on Thursday 28 November 2013.
