Alf from Home and Away |
To celebrate the opening, Ian Smith, quintessential Aussie
TV actor, most famously known for his loveable character Harold Bishop in the
soap opera Neighbours, came face-to-face with his wax self for the first time. Smith
was filled with surprise and excitement as he approached his wax figure, “this
is absolutely incredible; I never anticipated my figure would look so real. The
Madame Tussauds team has done such a great job, I’m actually a little lost for
words. I see I’ll be in very good company here with Ray Meagher, Rove McManus,
Dame Edna and Oprah – I don’t think we’ll be struggling for conversation that’s
for sure.”
For the very first time, Sydneysiders can get up close and
personal with some of Australia’s
most loved and admired personalities including Lleyton Hewitt, Jimmy Barnes and
Cate Blanchett, to name just a few. These iconic Aussie’s will be accompanied
by some of the most influential, powerful, talented personalities (both past
and present) in the world, including Queen Elizabeth II, Nelson Mandela,
Rhianna, and Johnny Depp.
The new, permanent attraction is the first of its kind to
land on Australian shores and has nine themed zones accommodating the wax
figures for visitors to interact with. Whether it’s surfing next to Layne
Beachley, kissing Leonardo Dicaprio, dancing with Michael Jackson or having a
chat on the sofa next to Oprah, visitors will be star-struck.
