Beautiful York

York Gourmet Food and Wine festival
Each June, the town of York in the state of Western Australia, Australia offers visitors something extra special with the York Gourmet Food and Wine festival, celebrating Western Australia's gourmet food and premier wine in the Avon Valley. Taking place over on 2-3 June, fresh produce, interactive cooking demonstrations, balloon artists and face painters will entertain the whole family in the majestic York Town Hall.

York is one and a half hour's drive east of Perth city, a quaint town in the heart of the Avon Valley which prides itself on its rich history and heritage. Founded in 1831 and named after the city of York in England for its reminiscent surrounding hills, the town's roots are in sheep and wheat farming, produced to sustain the colony.

Today, the charms and rustic character of the town entice visitors for relaxing day and weekend visits. Many of York's historical buildings like the Town Hall and The York Heritage Hotel and Terraces have been pristinely restored to former glory. The town is especially well known for its vintage motor vehicles and its many museums, and for the more adventurous, the shire of York offers activities such as skydiving and ballooning. It's events calendar also keep it abuzz throughout the year, with famous festivals including its Jazz Festival in September, Garden Festival in October, and the York Antique and Collectors Fair.
