ECSTATICA Lights Up Sydney: Inside the Spectacle of the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
A Night When Sydney Became a Global Celebration

Sydney erupted into colour, sound and collective celebration on Saturday 28 February 2026, as the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade transformed Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Moore Park Road into one of the world’s most electrifying cultural events.

Under this year’s powerful festival theme, ECSTATICA, the city delivered a dazzling showcase of creativity, diversity and pride, reinforcing Sydney’s reputation as one of the most inclusive and vibrant travel destinations on the planet. From locals lining balconies to international visitors filling the streets, the atmosphere was one of unity, joy and unapologetic self-expression.

A Parade That Captivates the World

An estimated 250,000 spectators gathered along the parade route, witnessing more than 10,000 marchers across over 170 floats in a spectacular procession of music, performance and storytelling. The parade pulsed with rhythm and movement, creating a sensory experience that blended activism, art and celebration.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Jesse Matheson described the atmosphere as unforgettable. “The Parade was loud, physical, and unapologetic. From some of the boldest floats Mardi Gras has ever produced to hundreds and thousands of people lining Oxford Street, this was ECSTATICA in full public view.”

The celebration extended far beyond the parade itself, flowing into late-night events and citywide festivities. “The energy carried straight into the After Party with Blak Joy, and so many incredible community events across Sydney where celebration became a connection,” Matheson said. “The Festival closes today with a sold-out Laneway street party, wrapping the month in music, bodies, and collective release.”

Honouring History While Celebrating the Present

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
As tradition dictates, the parade opened with the roar of Dykes on Bikes, followed by First Nations marchers and the 78ers, honouring the activists whose courage in 1978 laid the foundation for what has become a globally recognised Pride celebration.

Creative community groups followed, delivering bold choreography, imaginative costumes and powerful messages of visibility and belonging. One of the standout moments of the evening was the debut Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Community Float, celebrating beloved Australian comedian and queer icon Magda Szubanski, drawing cheers from crowds along the entire route.

For visitors, the parade offers more than entertainment; it provides a living connection to Australian social history and a chance to witness a city proudly embracing diversity.

A Major Tourism Event Driving Sydney’s Visitor Economy

The impact of Mardi Gras reaches far beyond celebration, playing a vital role in Sydney’s tourism landscape. Hotels, restaurants, bars and cultural venues across the city experience a significant boost as travellers arrive from across Australia and around the world.

Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper highlighted the festival’s importance to the state. “Mardi Gras is a dazzling and powerful showcase of Sydney at its absolute loudest and proudest. The NSW Government is proud to support the Mardi Gras Parade, which is one of the world’s largest and most spectacular celebrations of the LGBTQIA+ community and is the pride of our major events calendar.”

He added that the event positions Sydney strongly on the global stage. “Mardi Gras not only showcases Sydney as a culturally vibrant and welcoming global city, but it also attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across Australia and around the world, injecting millions of dollars into local businesses, hospitality and tourism operators and the broader NSW visitor economy.”

Why Mardi Gras Belongs on Every Traveller’s Bucket List

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has evolved into one of the world’s premier cultural festivals, combining nightlife, arts, activism and community spirit. Visitors experience Sydney at its most energetic, with beaches, galleries, restaurants and nightlife venues embracing the celebratory atmosphere throughout the festival period.

The parade’s unique nighttime setting adds to its global appeal, turning the city into a glowing stage where inclusivity and creativity shine side by side. For travellers seeking authentic cultural experiences, Mardi Gras offers an unforgettable way to engage with Sydney’s identity and community spirit.

Supported by the City of Sydney and Destination NSW, the 2026 festival once again demonstrated how major cultural events can unite communities while showcasing Australia to the world.

Athens Welcomes IAPCO 2026: Global Conference Leaders Unite to Shape the Future of the Meetings Industry

IAPCO 2026
Athens has once again stepped onto the world stage, this time as host of one of the most influential gatherings in the global meetings and events sector. The Annual Meeting & General Assembly 2026 of International Association of Professional Congress Organisers has officially opened in the Greek capital, bringing together 200 senior leaders from 36 countries to advance governance, strengthen professional standards and chart a resilient future for the global meetings industry.

For tourism professionals and business event planners alike, IAPCO 2026 in Athens signals not only industry leadership but also the continued rise of Greece as a premier destination for international congresses and conferences.

Athens Showcases Its Global Meetings Credentials

The event commenced with a prestigious reception at the Acropolis Museum, where delegates were welcomed by representatives from the Greek National Tourism Organization. The setting, beneath the shadow of the Acropolis, was a powerful reminder of Athens’ legacy as the birthplace of democracy and intellectual exchange.

The official conference programme is being held at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre, one of Europe’s leading convention venues. Hosting IAPCO’s flagship governance meeting reinforces Athens’ reputation as a competitive and sophisticated MICE destination, equipped with world-class infrastructure and global connectivity.

For travellers considering Athens for conferences, incentives or corporate gatherings, the city’s blend of ancient heritage and modern facilities offers a compelling proposition.

High-Level Government Support Elevates Greece’s MICE Ambitions

Senior representatives of the Hellenic Republic addressed delegates during the opening ceremony, highlighting the importance of business events as drivers of economic growth, innovation and international collaboration.

MAICC
The Greek Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, delivered a message of welcome from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, describing IAPCO 2026 as a milestone for Greece’s expanding role in the global meetings industry.

The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, outlined the city’s strategic plans focused on enhanced connectivity, sustainable infrastructure and its ambition to become a smart and resilient global capital.

This strong ministerial presence underscores the increasing recognition of business tourism as a cornerstone of Greece’s economic strategy.

The Odyssey Reinvented: A Human Journey Toward the Meetings of Tomorrow

Held from 25–28 February under the theme The Odyssey Reinvented – A very human journey toward the meetings of tomorrow, the programme draws inspiration from Homer’s epic narrative to explore how the industry is evolving in an era of technological transformation.

Under the leadership of IAPCO President Sissi Lignou, the agenda focuses on three core pillars: storytelling, leadership and strategy, and personal development. The metaphor of Odysseus’ journey reflects the modern challenges faced by professional conference organisers, from navigating digital disruption to strengthening resilience and adaptability.

While technology continues to reshape the way global meetings are delivered, the conference emphasises the enduring human qualities that underpin successful events, including collaboration, sound decision-making and trust.

A Unified Greek Industry Collaboration

The AM&GA 2026 is hosted collaboratively by AFEA Congress, CONVIN, ERA Congresses & Events and ERASMUS Conferences & Events, together with This is Athens – Convention & Visitors Bureau. This unified approach reflects Greece’s collaborative model in positioning itself as a leading international congress destination.

In 2025 alone, IAPCO members collectively delivered 23,245 events globally, demonstrating the immense scale and influence of the organisation’s network.

For destinations worldwide, the presence of IAPCO’s leadership in Athens offers significant exposure and long-term opportunities for partnership, bidding and future congress growth.

Why IAPCO 2026 Matters for Global Tourism

The global meetings industry plays a vital role in tourism development. International congresses drive hotel occupancy, airline traffic, restaurant revenue and cultural visitation, while fostering knowledge exchange and cross-border collaboration.

IAPCO 2026
By hosting IAPCO 2026, Athens reinforces its standing as a premium meetings destination in Europe. Delegates not only experience the city’s conference infrastructure but also its gastronomy, cultural heritage and Mediterranean hospitality.

As the industry looks toward a more sustainable, digitally advanced and human-centred future, Athens provides an inspiring backdrop where ancient symposium traditions meet the modern congress experience.

The World’s Most Picturesque Ski Destinations for a Winter Escape Revealed

Vatra Dorne, Romania
Shoulder-season travel is on the rise, with travel reports showing a 50% year-on-year increase. And with ski seasons extending well into April, these escapes are increasingly popular among those looking beyond the traditional peak period - whether or not you’re any good on the slopes.

To find out where the most visually spectacular winter destinations lie, the experts at TouchNote gathered and analysed thousands of Street View images at ski destinations around the world, using AI-powered image scoring to reveal the most breathtaking winter landscapes in 2026, whether you ski or not.

Romania takes first place for the most stunning ski landscapes, study reveals

Topping the rankings with a commanding 9.7/10, Romania emerges as the study's standout country, outscoring Switzerland despite the latter's global reputation as a ski powerhouse.

With an average elevation of 975m across its top-performing destinations, the Carpathian Mountains deliver serious alpine drama. The image analysis placed Romania's resorts consistently among the highest-scoring for natural scenery, with forested mountain backdrops and unspoiled valley settings helping the country pull clear of the field.

Its highest-scoring individual destination, Miercurea Ciuc (83.11), sits at the foot of the Harghita Mountains in the heart of Transylvania's Székely Land, a region where the peaks rise sharply above a compact, characterful town largely unknown to international visitors. Second is Vatra Dornei (82.20), the so-called Pearl of Bukovina, a historic spa town set where four Carpathian ranges converge, combining ski terrain with some of the most atmospheric mountain scenery in Eastern Europe.

Val Müstair, Switerland
Joint second with 9.4/10, Switzerland earns its place through the sheer drama of its remote high-altitude destinations. Val Müstair, in the secluded Lower Engadin valley of Graubünden, was the only destination in the entire study to receive a perfect scenic score of 100/100, with lifts reaching 2,700m and powder conditions to rival anywhere in the Alps. Neighbouring Albula/Alvra (96.59) sits on the celebrated route between St. Moritz and Davos, favoured by ski tourers for its solitude and sweeping terrain.

Bulgaria shares that second-place position and boasts the highest average elevation of any country in the study at 1,490m. Its top destinations are rooted in the Balkan Mountains: Shipka (67.53), near the historic Shipka Pass, offers forested ridges and sweeping valley views, while Chiflik (67.39), close to the Beklemeto ski area, sits within reach of panoramic sightlines across the Troyan Balkan, Sredna Gora, Rila, and Rhodope Mountains.

Both Italy and France place fourth scoring 8.5/10 for their destinations' natural beauty, but surprisingly, neither country's top scorers are their expected famous resorts.

Italy's highest-ranked destinations sit in the Apennines: Ventasso (75.41) in Emilia-Romagna offers skiing in a quieter, more authentic setting, while Lagonegro (55.72) in Basilicata brings winter sport to the deep south at over 1,600m, a dramatic, remote location that sits entirely off most travellers' radar.

France, meanwhile, finds its scenic best in the south, according to the analysis. Le Caire (96.06) in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence scores among the highest of any destination in the study, its rugged Provençal landscape offering something altogether wilder than the groomed slopes of the grandes stations. Asco (94.59) goes further still, a ski station set in Corsica's granite mountain interior, where the island's peaks meet proper winter conditions in near-complete isolation.

Kutchan, Japan
Craig Law, Head of Marketing and spokesperson for TouchNote, added: “When we think of skiing, our minds usually think of the usual hot spots: the snowy peaks of France, Italy, or Switzerland, but the data shows there are some really underrated locations out there. Seeing Romania and Bulgaria appear before classics such as Italy or France can be surprising, but Eastern European landscapes are often overlooked in favour of what we usually consider to be “picturesque”.

Thanks to unconventional destinations featuring in the top five of our ranking, we’re happy to show that skiing in beautiful locales doesn’t have to be a financially exclusive activity. After the Olympics, we are seeing a surge of interest in the sport, and this shows that you can go somewhere more affordable and still send back a postcard with some breathtaking views.”

We really hope you find this release useful. If you do end up using it, we would very much appreciate a link to https://touchnote.com/uk/postcards/.

SriLankan Airlines Strengthens India Links with Expanded Flights and New Destinations

SriLankan Airlines announces expansion plans in India
India and Sri Lanka have shared centuries of cultural, religious and commercial connections, and now SriLankan Airlines is making travel between the two neighbours easier than ever. At a special media conference held in Delhi alongside SATTE 2026, South Asia's premier travel and tourism exhibition, SriLankan Airlines unveiled a series of strategic initiatives designed to enhance connectivity, expand its Indian network and encourage even more travellers to discover the beauty of Sri Lanka.

With nearly 90 weekly flights already linking the two countries and additional services planned, the airline is reinforcing its position as one of the leading carriers connecting India with Sri Lanka and destinations across the globe.

India Remains SriLankan Airlines' Largest International Market

India continues to be the airline's most significant international market, accounting for almost 30 percent of SriLankan Airlines' total passenger traffic and approximately 23 percent of all visitor arrivals to Sri Lanka.

The strong demand reflects the close relationship between the two nations, with travellers flying for leisure holidays, business, trade, education, religious pilgrimages, weddings and visits to family and friends.

Recognising this continued growth, SriLankan Airlines is investing further in its Indian operations to meet rising demand while providing travellers with greater convenience and more destination choices.

Ahmedabad Joins the Growing Network

One of the most significant announcements made during SATTE 2026 was the addition of Ahmedabad as SriLankan Airlines' tenth destination in India.

The airline already serves Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Trivandrum, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli. The introduction of Ahmedabad further strengthens its presence by expanding services to six of India's eight largest metropolitan areas.

Rather than concentrating solely on major gateway cities, SriLankan Airlines continues to serve emerging regional markets, creating greater accessibility for travellers throughout India.

The expanded network is expected to increase Indian passenger traffic across the airline's international routes by up to 12 percent during the year.

Colombo Offers Seamless Global Connections

SriLankan Airlines has developed Colombo into an efficient regional hub connecting India with destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Australia.

Around 30 percent of Indian passengers travelling with the airline use Colombo as a convenient transit point before continuing their journeys to the Maldives, Australia, the Far East, Europe and numerous destinations throughout the Middle East.

The airline's growing schedule and well-timed connections provide Indian travellers with an attractive alternative when travelling internationally, reducing transit times while offering smooth onward connections through its own network and codeshare partners.

Discover the Many Wonders of Sri Lanka

Fawzan Fareid Regional Manager
for India, Bangladesh and Nepal

Into the Surreal: Exploring David Lynch’s Most Iconic Film Locations

Greystone Mansion
While the late David Lynch was not a born-and-bred Angeleno, his life and work were deeply influenced by his adopted hometown. The legendary filmmaker, who passed in January 2025, moved to L.A. in 1970 at age 24 and created much of his magic at his home just off Mulholland Drive, including his 2001 surrealist neo-noir movie of the same name.

Lynch loved to shoot his movies in Los Angeles, including at his elaborate Hollywood Hills home, which included an editing suite, screening room, and library. Here are fifteen LA locations to look for in Lynch’s iconic creations.

1) GREYSTONE MANSION, BEVERLY HILLS

643 N La Cienega Blvd, West Hollywood 90069
Much of Lynch’s first feature film, 1977’s deeply unsettling Eraserhead, was filmed at the stables of Beverly Hills’ Greystone Mansion while he was still studying at LA’s American Film Institute. He came full circle for his final feature, 2006’s Inland Empire, in which the 1928 Tudor Revival property also appears, as it does in countless other movies, TV shows, and music videos.

2) FIRESTONE COMPLETE CAR SERVICE, MID CITY

In Lynch’s 1997 surrealist horror Lost Highway, Arnie’s is an auto shop run by Richard Pryor’s character, where Pete Dayton (Balthazar Getty) is employed. The real garage was a 1937 deco Firestone Complete Care Service at La Brea and 8th Street in Mid City LA and you can actually linger inside this Lynchian landmark, as it’s now All Season Brewing Company.

3) SUNSET RANCH HOLLYWOOD

Way at the top of Hollywood’s Beachwood Drive, Sunset Ranch stables has been at the same location since the 1920s – back when the iconic white sign above still spelled out “Hollywoodland.” In Mulholland Drive, it’s the scene of Adam’s nighttime meeting with the mysterious Cowboy, who fits right in with the equestrian surrounds.

4) ENNIS HOUSE, LOS FELIZ

David Lynch was a fan of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who designed portions of his own home and the incredible hilltop Ennis House in Los Feliz, which Lynch used as a location in both Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive. A 1925 Mayan Revival concrete marvel, this California Historical Landmark also appears in Blade Runner, The Rocketeer and many more.

5) BANKS-HUNTLEY BUILDING & PALACE THEATRE, DOWNTOWN LA

For the offices of “Ryan Entertainment” in Mulholland Drive, Lynch chose the historic Banks-Huntley Building in Downtown Los Angeles. The 1930 Art Deco landmark was the first office building in LA to be designed with central air conditioning and heating. Directly opposite, the rear of the Palace Theatre served as the entrance to “Club Silencio” in Mulholland Drive.
