A new cultural event is set to transform the Blue Mountains into a vibrant meeting place for art, music, nature and community. SUPERPOSITION has announced the full program for its inaugural festival, presenting four days of immersive experiences across Penrith, Katoomba, Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Medlow Bath and Wentworth Falls.
Set within the UNESCO World Heritage listed Greater Blue Mountains, the festival brings together local, national and international artists for a program designed specifically around the landscape and communities of the region.
Co-Artistic Directors Sam Watson-Wood and Thom Smyth say the festival has grown from three years of engagement with Dharug and Gundungurra communities, Blue Mountains artists, cultural organisations and venues.
A Festival Connected to Country
SUPERPOSITION has been curated along the Blue Mountains train line, making it easier for visitors travelling from Sydney to explore different festival locations. Local residents with a Blue Mountains or Western Sydney postcode can also receive 10 percent off single tickets.
The program has been developed with guidance from Gundungurra man Uncle David King and Aunty Leanne Tobin, placing connection to Country, community and landscape at the heart of the festival.
Visitors can experience intimate dawn and dusk ambient DJ sets along the Blackheath escarpment, guided bushwalks, stargazing at Linden Observatory and the Mount Victoria Ghost Tour led by Paranormal Pete.
Highlights Across Art, Music and Performance
One of the major events is Block Party, a street celebration curated by Mountains-born alternative electro pop group Haiku Hands.MTNS Made showcases local projects, music, performance, visual art and markets, including live music inside Rosey Ravelston’s Book Store and a new exhibition by Ben Toupein.
Ace Mart, created by Ace House Collective from Yogyakarta and RIFF RAFF ARI from Penrith, combines an art installation with a late-night convenience store, festival information point and community meeting place. The space will also host cobblers, menders and makers throughout the weekend.
At Katoomba, Bimiibigang Gedumba, meaning Welcome Katoomba, features a Welcome to Country and Creation Story performance led by Gundungurra man Uncle David King, alongside a performance by composer and violinist Eric Avery.

Accelerations by Joyce Hinterding and David Haines explores electromagnetic forces, synthetic terrain and sensor-mediated performance, creating an unusual encounter between technology, geology and the surrounding environment.
High Tea Dance promises another major festival experience, transforming the gardens and stables of the Victoria and Albert Guesthouse from daytime into night with performances by Ayebatonye, Annabelle Gaspar, Kilimi, Junior M, Lesbionica and Kemical SistaS.
The Blue Mountains Writers Festival will also present programming within SUPERPOSITION, while evening activities include late-night activations, karaoke, festival lunches and village-based social events.
