A New Family Adventure Bringing Marine Science to Life
Junior Scientists
Looking for memorable things to do in Fiji with kids during the September school holidays? Captain Cook Cruises Fiji is giving young travellers the chance to become Junior Scientists while exploring the spectacular marine environment of the Mamanuca Islands.
The new Junior Scientist Program combines a tropical island day trip with hands-on marine education, reef discovery and conservation activities. Led by Captain Cook Cruises Fiji’s resident Marine Biologists, the experience gives children an exciting opportunity to learn about Fiji’s coral reefs and marine life while experiencing the ocean first-hand.
Learn About Fiji’s Coral Reefs
Rather than simply looking at the reef, Junior Scientists are encouraged to become actively involved in protecting it.
The program includes guided marine activities, coral planting, nature exploration, a beach clean-up and an interactive reef talk. Children can discover how coral reefs support marine ecosystems and why protecting Fiji’s oceans is important for future generations.
Each participant receives a Junior Scientist Certificate, providing a special memento of their school holiday adventure and recognising their contribution to the marine environment.
Explore Kadavu Lailai Beach in the Mamanucas
The Island and Reef Day Sail departs daily from Port Denarau Marina in Nadi at 10am, travelling to Kadavu Lailai Private Beach in the Mamanuca Islands before returning at approximately 5pm.
Kadavu Lailai features white sand, clear tropical waters and extensive coral gardens surrounded by lush island vegetation. Families can enjoy guided snorkelling and glass-bottom boat tours with Marine Biologists, as well as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, beach volleyball and nature walks.
The cruise also forms part of Captain Cook Cruises Fiji’s broader marine sustainability program, including coral planting and Citizen Science activities.

A tropical buffet lunch prepared with fresh local produce is included, along with morning and afternoon tea. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available on the island, while Fijian cultural entertainment adds an authentic local dimension to the experience.
The combination of education, adventure, conservation and traditional Fijian hospitality makes this an appealing Fiji family activity for parents seeking more than a conventional beach day.
