Try something new this winter

Aussie travellers love exploring new destinations and pride themselves on being the first to try new things. As the legendary Home of Winter, Canada is the ultimate destination for new snowy adventures. From dog sledding to skiing and everything in between, check out the latest Explore Canada video and be inspired to give Canada a try this winter.

NEW hotel opening in Montreal

The HONEYROSE Hotel, opened in May 2023, offers laid-back luxury in the Quartier des Spectacles of downtown Montreal. Created by Brian Elsden Burrows of the Architex Group, the hotel design was inspired by the 1920s, described as ‘vintage meets modern’, with the Californian-inspired lounge offering an impressive rooftop terrace. Features include elegant rooms, the French bistro-style COMMODORE restaurant, neighbourhood cafĂ©, indoor pool, gym and movement studio with spectacular views from the 15th floor.

VIA Rail Snow Train to the Rockies

Every seat is a front row on the Snow Train route from Vancouver to Jasper, operating during winter. You’ll be transfixed by 360-degree views of the vanilla landscape from the domed-roof Panorama car. Sip a glass of award-winning Okanagan pinot noir as the train winds its way through the Canadian Rockies and watch the setting sun send a good-night glow over the snowy mountains.

It’s just as well you have more than 1000 kilometres to catch your breath as you take in the magnificent landscape. Beauty takes no shortcuts in the Canadian Rockies.

Sustainability on the edge of the Arctic

In Churchill, Manitoba, known as the Polar Bear Capital of the World, tour operators like Churchill Wild and Frontiers North Adventures offer ways to see wildlife while minimizing your impact on the environment. Encounter polar bears from an electric Tundra Buggy® with Frontiers North Adventures. Due to zero-emission vehicle technology, this new type of Tundra Buggy® means minimal disruption to the bears and their natural habitat. Alternatively, join a Churchill Wild walking tour for your chance to see polar bears in the wild, led by a professionally trained guide to help keep you and the polar bears safe while protecting their natural habitat.

Where hides are raw and hearts are full

Known as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede is set to rock and roll from 7-16 July 2023. Experience the thundering power of the GMC Rangeland Derby and the nightly spectacle of the one-of-a-kind TransAlta Grandstand Show – and it’s all for a good cause. This world-renowned not-for-profit event promotes western heritage and values and raises money for youth and agriculture programs in Calgary and southern Alberta. The event draws thousands of country and western fans to Alberta every year to sit ringside and watch rodeo’s roughest champions and the world’s toughest stock go head-to-head for ten days.
