Cook Islands welcomes the first Jetstar direct Australian flight to Rarotonga Supported by a 5-day sale with one-way fares from AU$249

Jetstar’s inaugural flight from Australia to the Cook Islands has landed in Rarotonga on 29 June 2023. Passengers were welcomed by an island band, cultural dancers and warm Pacific Island hospitality.

The non-stop service from Sydney to Rarotonga operates three times a week on a Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Commenting on the flight arrival, Cook Islands Prime Minister, Mark Brown, said “My government is thrilled to welcome Jetstar’s inaugural flight to our beautiful country, continuing the Cook Islands journey on the path to economic recovery. The people of the Cook Islands and our tourism suppliers have been waiting in anticipation for Jetstar’s flight arrival, and welcome more than double the capacity of any previous airline who has serviced the Cook Islands from Australia.”

Located halfway between Australia and Hawaii, the flight time to the Cook Islands is approx. 5.5 hours non-stop. Made up of 15 islands, Rarotonga and Aitutaki are the most visited destinations, where guests can experience the most beautiful lagoons in the world, while immersing themselves in local culture, cuisine and adventure.

Jetstar’s new Airbus A321neo LR aircraft will operate the route departing Sydney at 9.30pm, arriving in Rarotonga at 7.00am the same day. The return flights leave Rarotonga at 9.00am arriving in Sydney at 12.30pm the following day.

Graeme West, GM Australasia Cook Islands Tourism, said vibe on the island leading up to Jetstar’s flight arrival had been one of high anticipation, “So many Cook Islanders rely on international visitation to sustain their livelihood, and people are thrilled with Jetstar’s new Australian flights, supporting tourism growth.”

Jetstar’s Chief Customer Officer, Alan McIntyre was at Sydney Airport to farewell the first flight. “We are excited to be providing the only direct option between Australia and the Cook Islands, making it a very convenient way to enjoy a tropical holiday,” Mr McIntyre said.
