Photography in Egypt

The Egyptian Government is now allowing Egyptians and tourists to take photographs for non-commercial use in all public places, free of charge and without requiring any permit.

This applies to all traditional cameras, digital cameras and video cameras, but does not cover professional photography umbrellas; artificial outdoor lighting gear or equipment that occupies or blocks public roads.

Taking or sharing photographs ‘of scenes that can, in one way or another, damage the country’s image’ is not allowed.

Taking images of children is prohibited and Egyptian citizens can only be photographed after obtaining their written permission.
