New! Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs opens in the Yukon

Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs
There's something magical about soaking in a natural outdoor hot spring nestled within a snow-drenched forest, the mesmerising northern lights dancing overhead, in one of Canada's most epic wilderness destinations.

Following a 7.5 million-dollar, three-year renovation, the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs has opened near Whitehorse, in Canada's north-western Yukon Territory. The new facility replaces the 50 year-old Takhini Hot Springs, a favourite attraction for visitors and residents alike.

Heated by natural geothermal activity, the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs features multiple outdoor soaking pools framed by large boulders, saunas, steam rooms and fire pits, as well as a new restaurant featuring spa-fusion food, including home-made soups and sandwiches.

The famous Yukon Hair Freezing Contest is back on this winter with patrons invited to soak their hair, allow it to freeze in weird and wacky positions and then pose for an entry photograph. To enter, participants need to visit the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs when the temperature falls below -20°C.

The Hair Freezing Contest originated at Takhini Hot Springs in 2011, with images from the competition going viral in 2015. Since then, the contest has attracted global attention with a hefty prize purse of $2000 for winners in each category.

Located just 20 minutes from the Yukon's capital city of Whitehorse, the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs' spa and wellness offering is restricted to patrons aged 19 and over, with a family pool set to open in 2023.

The Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs property features two luxury suites available for rent through Airbnb, accommodating up to eight people in one and up to four people in the other.

This iconic destination will eventually include a hotel, spa services building, a distillery and convention centre.

Entry fees range from $19 to $39.
