“Live like a local,” stress-relief and all things Tasmania top the list for Gen Z and Millennial travellers according to new study

Just released, results from a research study by Concrete Playground Trips - the new e-commerce travel platform from Concrete Playground, indicates new travel trends from its Gen Z and Millennial audiences.

Concrete Playground, the award-winning digital city guide which reaches more than 1.2m readers a month, asked its audience to comment on their plans, spend, passions and preferences for their future travel experiences.

The outcomes included:

  1. Domestic travel is king. 50% of New Zealanders and 53% of Australians plan on doing more domestic trips this year compared to pre-pandemic.
  1. Adventure and culture aside, 31% of Gen Z and 30% of millennials are booking trips for the sole purpose to de-stress.
  2. The traditional bucket list has changed. 70% would prefer to go off the beaten track, with 74% wanting to “live like a local” than seeing the more popular tourist spots.
  1. Tasmania tops the list as the go-to destination for Aussie travellers.
  1. It’s now or never. 40% say they’re planning on spending more than their pre-COVID spend.

Based on these results, Concrete Playground has extended its offering to include an e-commerce platform - Concrete Playground Trips (CP Trips) - which ongoing, will listen to its audience to curate specific bookable money-can’t-buy travel experiences across Australia and New Zealand.

Bookings will be limited to ensure each experience is as exclusive as possible, fulfilling its status as ‘GOAT’. In addition to an ongoing travel offering, the platform will launch 12 itineraries each quarter across its key pillars of money-can’t-buy and unique experiences, outdoor adventures, luxury getaways and city breaks.

Frances Deighton, Head of Strategy and Insights for Concrete Playground Trips said: “Now more than ever, it’s important we all listen to what travellers want because their desires, interests and expectations are significantly different to what we were seeing pre-pandemic. It’s an exciting opportunity to provide this new traveller with an experience that will set the standard for their future travel.”
