Celebrate in Kyoto at Gion Matsuri!

Gion Matsuri
This summer festival has been celebrated since 869! There are street parties, festive food and parades with elaborately decorated floats weighing up to 12 tonnes!

Aside from the festivities, wealthy families and merchants in the Shinmachi and Muromachi areas share their private art collections for people to admire during the Byobu Matsuri.

Treasures such as screens, kimonos and art are put on display out the front of houses.

Gion Matsuri is held every year for the entire month of July with the main processions on the 17th & 24th.
