Craftsmen of Woodland Kyoto - Carrying-on and sharing traditions

Mr. and Mrs. Omae
There are many fascinating craftsmen living in our area.

Among them, we would like to introduce the craftsmen of traditional Japanese Aizome (indigo dyeing) and Washi (Japanese paper).

Below, you will meet the craftsmen of Aizome, Mr. and Mrs. Omae, and of Kurotani Washi, Ms. Moniwa; all of who relocated to Woodland Kyoto.

Aizome Indigo dyeing with the Omae's
Mr. and Mrs. Omae enjoy the views of Japan's countryside from their traditional thatched roof home in the village of Miyama, where they use ancient Japanese techniques and only natural materials for their indigo dyeing.

Kurotani Washi
Ms. Moniwa helps keep this 800 year old tradition alive

Ms. Mobiwa
A former elementary school teacher from Hokaido, Ms. Mobiwa is fascinated by "Kurotani Washi", a Japanese paper born from tradtitional handmade techniques over 800 years ago.

Both are fascinating, right?

Additionally, we sell tours of the Kurotani Washi workshop and Japanese paper making activities, so please feel free to contact us if you are interested.
