Around 12,000 people are expected to participate in Sydney’s biggest annual bike festival, Sydney Rides, from 11 to 25 October. The event will include more than 20 unique events celebrating all things cycling.
As part of the festival, the new Sydney Rides the Night initiative on Saturday 25 October invites participants to take a free scenic evening tour past some of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks, while also experiencing light installations and special effects along the way. Starting at The Domain, Sydney Rides the Night then follows a 2.5 kilometre loop around Mrs Macqaurie’s Chair. Participants can ride the loop as many times as they wish, then stop to grab a bite to eat from a gourmet food truck, listen to live music, or enjoy entertainment on a big screen while relaxing on an outdoor lounge.
Sydney Rides also includes Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 15 October, where people can grab a free breakfast at a pop-up stall while receiving a free bike tune-up. Another key event is Spring Cycle, Sydney’s largest recreational cycling event, which includes a ride across the Harbour Bridge. Sydney Rides also incorporates a program of talks and workshops including a seminar on what makes a city great for cycling.
