The Singapore Tourism Board is delighted to announce that Singapore has topped the list of Lonely Planet's 2015 Best in Travel Top 10 Countries, the first Southeast Asian country to be given this accolade.
Lonely Planet cites Singapore's eclectic mix of heritage buildings, shopping malls, hawker centres, green spaces and other tourism highlights as having brought the country to new heights.
Sharon Lam, Area Director Oceania, Singapore Tourism Board (STB), commented:“We are humbled by this tremendous result and we're honoured by the recognition of Singapore's efforts not just in tourism, but also in heritage, culture, greenery, dining, arts and shopping, to name just a few.
“This serves as motivation for us to continue delivering innovative tourism concepts that can help Aussies discover the real Singapore.”
With Aussies seeking to experience a destination just like a local, Singapore's many precincts allow visitors to immerse in cultural diversity and experience the best that the city has to offer. From Boon Tat Street's mouth-watering satay under the stars, off the beaten track boutique shops on Tiong Bahru's Yong Siak Street and an energetic nightlife on Club Street and Ann Siang Hill, Singapore is an unparalleled destination that offers Australians and colourful experience.
Commenting on behalf of Lonely Planet, Mr Chris Zeiher, Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Director, said: "Lonely Planet is pleased to announce that Singapore has topped the list as the #1 country to visit in our much-anticipated Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015. Full of surprises, Singapore is set to delight visitors next year and is deserving of the number one spot.”
This win is a welcome addition to a small but growing list of accolades for Singapore's leisure experiences. Recently, users of popular travel review site TripAdvisor named Universal Studios Singapore as the top amusement park in Asia for 2014 and the Singapore Botanic Gardens as the top park in Asia.
