There were 137 entries in the contest, which was open to any tourism organization or business that produced a travel film four minutes or less in length in the last year. A jury selected six finalists, whose films were screened during the closing session of the Summit. The two winners, voted on by the audience, are “Pride of Namibia” from World Wildlife Fund and “Reconsider South Africa” from South African Tourism.
“The only thing that can inspire and energize the soul more than the art of travel is the art of film,” said WWF filmmaker Andy Maser. Maser's colleague Jenny Nichols added, “It's an honor to be able to use film as a medium to tell the story of the brave and innovative people of Namibia who live with wildlife that is simultaneously awesome and dangerous to both livelihoods and human life.”
"We are very proud of our newest brand video,” said South African Tourism's Kristy Angellotti. “It does a great job of showcasing the unparalleled variety of experiences travelers can find in South Africa, and challenges the viewer to reconsider what they think they know."
The ATTA partnered with Yahoo Travel and Wilderness Ireland for this contest with the objective of celebrating creative storytelling and its role in inspiring adventure travel. Wilderness Ireland's Stevie Christie was the evening's host and challenged audience members, who were all delegates to the Adventure Travel World Summit, to “be a little bolder in how you tell your stories.” The winning films will be featured on Yahoo Travel's website, starting Wednesday, October 15, and filmmakers will receive a one-year membership to the ATTA and tickets to next year's Summit in Puerto Varas, Chile. The ATTA plans to hold the Adventure in Motion film contest next year ahead of the 2015 Adventure Travel World Summit.
